Day 19 – And Let’s Practice Leaving Stuff Out

In keeping with my backstory theme from yesterday: we’ve got to prune down to essentials.

This line from Elmore Leonard cracks me up, but he’s right: as writers, we can find every line we write to be delicious, every detail of our characters’ worlds to be fascinating, but readers get bored easy.

Focus on CONFLICT. Nobody gets bored when stakes are high and our protagonists are in danger of losing something that really matters.
