Day Forty-Three and March Madness for Romance Fans!

Posted Feb 21 2011, 2:44 am

Don’t know about you, but I’m clueless about basketball. I love competition, though! And of course I love romance novels. Throughout March, Smart Bitches Trashy Books is running a fabulous contest (with brackets and everything!) for choosing the Best Books of 2010.  You can pick your favorites in a bracket (just like your basketball-obsessed friends are doing with all those college teams) and keep voting in head-to-head face-offs each week.

It’s weird, it’s wonderful. It’s full of awesome-sauce (as Sarah would say)! You can check out the details here.

And, meanwhile, keep working on YOUR Best Romance of 2011!  Leave a comment below and let us know how you did with your writing today!! (And remember…we have ONE FULL WEEK of the Festival left. Make the best of it!)

  1. I’m still operating on Day 42: 279 words. Heroine has met the hero. Wish I could’ve done more words for the night since I was freaking excited about this first meet all day.

After a week of revising I have finally hit a black moment that really works! I will have a big smile on my face at the end of the WWF when I type ‘THE END’ : )

Woo-hoo for a black moment!!! It’s the very heart of a book, as far as I’m concerned. (Though of course THE END is sweet!)

I’m still going strong. I think I will be finishing my MS by the March 11, like I hoped.

I finished my WIP and decided to jump into a new story. Many of the wonderful women on here have helped me plot out ideas that wouldn’t seem to form and here I am: suck in limbo. I want to write, I really do, but I cannot seem to creat something good. I’m having a mental mind freeze on anything creative. Hopfully it wont last long.

You’ve finished your WIP!! That’s a huge accomplishment! Give your brain a little recharge time before you expect a new idea to gel. And remember, first drafts are SUPPOSED to be clunky and tortured and awful. Just get something on paper….you can always work from there.

Yesterday was a major bust for me. After spending the day at my local RWA chapter meeting and then going out for a date night with my husband Saturday night, I thought I could spend yesterday catching up since my kids spent the night with the grandparents. But then I started thinking too much about all the mistakes I was making and wondering if I would ever get my manuscript into some kind of workable shape. Major writers block. I don’t think I would have kept at it if I didn’t have ten poiints left to get.

Today I put my butt in the chair and cranked out over 3,000 mostly new words. I know some parts of it suck, but I will keep going. I will keep working until most of it is suck-free.

I am back on track, thank you RSSWWF!

  7. Elisa Beatty says:

Fabulous news for today, Kristina!! So sorry about the suckage yesterday…those down times are just awful.

But there’s no solution but BICHOK (butt in chair, hands on keyboard). It’s the only way through…and if you stick with it, it ends up working every time! Congrats on getting there today!

  8. 1058 for Day 43. 🙂 And I’m still dealing with the first meet.

If you’re like me, Allison, you’ll tweak that first meet up until the very end! I swear I always have to go back and fix it, over and over again. Good luck!
