Another great Check-In Wednesday yesterday!
Congrats again to all those who met their goals and who are reporting fantastic progress!!
For those (like me) who fell a little short this week, don’t get discouraged! We have more than a month of Festival left, and plenty of time to catch up. If you need to, feel free to re-jigger your goals or your means of making a point each day.
This Festival is about finding ways to make progress, and hopefully to get into a groove you can really LIVE with!
So how’s it going today?
Got my point doing Vivi’s late-night sprint. I knew all day that I was going to hit that, so I didn’t stress when no other writing time really worked out.
I think what I am learning through this process is that options really do matter. In the past, I would set ONE goal: i.e. 1,000 words a day or 5K a week or 1 hour per day in chair. But the problem with ONE goal is it doesn’t allow a lot of room for TRIED. Forget Yoda. Writing is all about hte TRY. So in the last year, I’ve been on a journey to reward myself for the TRY. And I built in a long list of ways to earn my point because I want to be able to do that. My daily goal is 1k, but if I do a Ruby Sprint or #1k1hr I give myself the point no matter what the word count is. It’s the try there that matters.
So if anyone is thinking of retooling her or his goals, find a way to reward yourself for the TRY and build more OR into your options. And be realistic: If all you can manage now is 10 minutes a day, then find a way to reward that, so that you actually do it rather than moping b/c you don’t have an hour. I spent YEARS in that mentality. And if I think about the rest of my life, I’ve been that way forever. Stepping free from it is amazing.
I love hearing this! How wonderful, Annabeth!!
I just signed up, just found out about your Ruby Slippered site, hope that’s okay. I just need that extra push to finish my MS, and the best way is to join a site like yours. My goal is to finish the MS with at least 50,000 words. I’m at 17k right now, so, we’ll see how it goes.
Dottie
Hi Dottie! I’m another participant, and let me tell you, the sprints are awesome. Come by sometime! Good luck with that word count!
Welcome, Dottie! Jump right in! We don’t stand on ceremony here. We’re delighted to have you!
Have you read the basic rules back on the rubyslipperedsisterhood.com site for Jan 11? The idea is to set specific goals for which you earn a point at a time. Feel free to spot yourself points for the days you didn’t know about the Festival.
I hope you’ll join us in the Chat Room sprints–you can see the schedule for this week if you scroll back to the top of this page.
