Day Sixteen, and Time for a little Ruby History!

Good morning, all!

It occurs to us that some Festival Participants still may not know who the Ruby Slippered Sisters are.

The Rubies are a true sisterhood, but not by birth.  We were lucky enough to find each other when we all were named finalists in the 2009 Golden Heart Contest, run by the Romance Writers of America.  We bonded through a Yahoo Groups loop in the days after finalists were named, and built such a wonderful group relationship, we decided to launch our group blog, the Ruby Slippered Sisterhood in September of 2009.  (The site was designed by our own Liz Bemis, of bemispromotions.com.)  You can read more of the story of how we came together here and here.

We’ve posted on our blog every weekday since then (except for holidays), helping to create a warm and supportive community for romance writers everywhere.  This is our first Winter Writing Festival, but we’re planning to be back with another in 2012.

We had a blast with our  Make It Golden Contest back in September when we celebrated our Blog-o-versary, and we’re planning to run another (free!) contest in early March. And we’ll be there as your go-to site in the build-up to the 2011 Golden Heart Finalists announcements on March 25.

In the nearly two years since the 2009 Golden Heart final, many Rubies have published their first books (or multiple books), and many more have their debut novels coming out during 2011.  You can see all the gorgeous covers along the bottom of the home page of the Ruby blog.  Some of us are still actively seeking publication, so we’re right there in the trenches with the many aspiring writers who join us on the blog!

Feel free to check in daily with the Rubies! (During the Festival, you can see an excerpt from the blog’s daily post on the Festival’s home page. To read the whole post, click on the light-blue title above the excerpt.)

Good luck with your Festival work today!  If you’ve been with us from the beginning and earned that bonus point for signing up on January 10, you should be up to SEVENTEEN points now!  Remember to update your progress bar under Edit Profile!

Go, go, go!!

Today’s my birthday and I celebrated by hitting my word goal before 9am! Yay! Now I can relax tonight.

I’m looking forward to the March contest. I missed out on the one in September, but you guys throw such a great party. I was with you all day last March 25th, and I plan to spend that day with you again.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Many happy returns of the day, Katrina. What a great way to celebrate your birth. ; ) My birthday is a ways away but hitting my goal tonight gave me cause to celebrate too.

    happy birthday, Katrina!

Thanks for the reminder of who we are and where we’ve been over the last (almost!) two years.

  6. Happy birthday Katrina! Hope you partied like a rock star. :)

Day 16 for me: 596 words and 1 hour of revising/rewriting (probably more, but I lost track). I wound up redoing the first kiss scene I drafted last week. It now has potential. I think. :)

Now I gotta go take a nap. I have a hot date with Kim and Vivi in the chat room in a couple hours. :)
