Day Twenty-Five, and Happy New Year!

Happy Asian Lunar New Year, that is!
I always love fresh starts, wherever I can get them, so I’m ready to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. According to the Chinese Zodiac, Rabbits are mellower than their fierce predecessors, the Tiger, and given to a certain degree of self-indulgence (chocolate, anyone?) They’re good at laying low when necessary, and recouping their strength. But Rabbits are also a lucky and successful sign, associated with creativity and the arts, but also longevity, practicality, keeping promises, and STICKING WITH A PROJECT UNTIL IT’S DONE.
Hmm….
I’ve heard from a few participants lately that they’ve fallen a bit behind in their Festival goals, and are feeling tempted to give up entirely. I’m here to say DON’T GIVE UP…recoup your energy for a bit if you need to, but then GIVE YOURSELF A FRESH START!!
If you need to downsize your Festival goals a little, or add “Say the words, ‘Darn, I fell behind but I’m not giving up!‘” to your list of ways to earn a point, DO IT!! Stay with us, keep working, and you’ll still have a whole lot more writing done by the end of February than if you stop now and waste the next few weeks playing Tetris and reading back issues of gardening catalogs.
Really, truly….
Strap on your track shoes, Rabbit, and get sprinting again! You’ll be glad you did!
I’m loving those daily quotes. We’re off for a CT scan today, so I’m getting the writing in early. Just have to leave enough time to de-ice the car. The timing for this festival is so perfect with winter’s wicked weather corraling so much of the country indoors. I’m could almost love the weather–if I didn’t have to shovel it!
Well made it through another winter storm up here in Maine. I took advantage, buy writing a small colum for my chapter newsletter and a small bio for a member project at my chapter meeting this month. Today I’m going to be working on a Query letter and I have no idea how to do one.
Any thoughts.
Emily, check out agent Kristin Nelson’s blog at http://pubrants.blogspot.com/. Scroll way down until you see, on the right, “Agent Kristin’s Queries: An Inside Scoop.” She breaks down queries that her clients originally sent her, to explain what worked and why. You can also see the basic structure of a query letter by reading these.
Thanks, I’ll check that out.
I wrote over 2000 words yesterday, so I counted that as two points, one for today. My day off from my day job, ironically, usually means too much to do to get any writing done!
But I had to add a couple of things to my goal metrics, as I’ve nearly completed two of them, and have a synopsis to write and a book to finish prepping to self-publish, and having those as goals might actually get me to DO them instead of moving them from day to day on my to-do list. LOL
Okay! Recouping my energy and starting fresh on a new scene, because it’s the one that thumping on the inside of my skull and begging to get out. Here I go!
Now I can finally see the sidewalk I’ve been out running errands and the fresh air has done me good. I’m rarin’ to revise. Check you later when I’ve made my goal.
8:06 and I’m chiming it to say I made my goal again. I think I’ve revised this enough I’m considering entering it in PI’s Stroke of Midnight contest.
Yes! Yes! Enter it! We’ll put some Ruby Mojo into rooting for you!
Go for it, Michal! And Good luck!
