Wonder of wonders–it’s DAY TEN!!

Yes, folks, we’ve made it alive and well to Day Ten! That’s 1/5 of the Festival. Twenty percent! The same number of days as we have fingers on our hands–which seems at least vaguely significant, given that we’re writers. Or maybe I’m just getting really punchy.

Either way, go forth and conquer!  (And if you want to have your mind at least slightly blown by the Power of Ten, check out the counter at the top of apple.com/startpage, which is counting down to their 10 billionth app download. It will make ten days of writing look like the lightest, easiest thing in the world.)

And be sure to update your progress bar!  (If you haven’t found it yet, log in, got to Edit Profile under FUNCTIONS on the page you’re taken to, then scroll to the BOTTOM of your profile page.  You just type in the total number of points you’ve earned, and your progress bar will scoot forward in a most gratifying way.)

Morning, all! If you happen to be as mystified by Twitter as I am, be sure to check out Jamie Michele’s wonderfully clear intro on the Ruby blog today. You can read more than just the excerpt posted above by clicking on the blue title just under “Today on the Ruby Blog….”

    Happy writing!

Great blog. I’m so clueless on Twitter. I’m kind of a twitter dropout.

okay, off to write. think I’ll check out the chatroom and see if I can get some sprints going :)

    Happy writing, friends!

  3. Thanks everyone for your words of consolation yesterday. They must have had some magic in them because I feel a bit better today. With a little Tylenol, I’ve been able to get some work done.

DRUM ROLL please… I’m off to the post office to mail out the full manuscript I had requested back in October. And then I’m coming back and giving myself a fresh start by awarding myself ALL of the points I missed in the last several days because I was laid up. It’s so nice to be able to set your own rules. :) Tomorrow I hope to get back into the full swing of things.

Okay. Today I finished the dreaded synopsis, so I’m taking the day off from major writing and giving my brain a much needed rest. Though I think I’ll jump over to the writing sprint tonight.

    • Thanks, Emily. Congratulations to you too! There’s no better feeling than finishing a synopsis. For me, it’s even better than finishing the manuscript because I hate writing synopses so much. And I can never polish and refine them enough. I was tweaking mine for the book I just submitted right up until I printed out the envelope to mail it.

This was my first synopsis and the only reason it got written is I’m doing a mini workshop on one of my online writing chapter. But to be honest I’m glad I got my first one out of the way.

I fell off the wagon. That three day weekend did me no favors. I knew Monday would be a bust and planned for it, but I didn’t know I would be so under the weather yesterday as to not be able to accomplish anything. I didn’t even cook dinner or finish the sock I’m knitting. Boo.

But I’m back in the saddle again. Under goal for today (at least thus far!), but it feels amazing to be working again, so I’m feeling positive. Knowing I am being accountable to myself with the help of the festival is exactly the push I needed to salvage what I could of the week instead of crumbling. :)

I had a very productive writing day! Easily made my goal. :)

  7. I’ve just deleted an entire novel from my hard-drive. The reworks are so massive, I printed it out and am, basically starting over. It’s my 2x GH finalist, but it’s going nowhere as it, so it’s time for drastic.

Yeah, I’se a bit crazy. Cabin fever? LOL

  8. Thanks, Rita. This story is about 18 years old. If I haven’t learned something in that time, I better just give it up.

Whew! I must have shot my wad yesterday. It was uphill all the way today, but I still crossed my 500 new words per day finish line and did 523 words. I want a bad treat. Honey BBQ chips and a coke. Yeah. Well, I’ll settle for oatmeal cookies and tea. : )

  10. Tina Joyce says:

No new writing today, but I did some heavy duty revisions on 40 pages of a requested manuscript. 45 more pages to polish, and then off it goes!

I am slacking off big time. I did not meet my goal two days in a row now. Had a migraine yesterday, but managed about 300 words of dialogue that woke me from my nap. And today I was busy catching up on the grocery shopping and laundry I didn’t get to yesterday. Oh well, I’ll just have to do double (or triple) the work tomorrow. I did do some character worksheets on my second project. Trying desperately to hold off revisions on my fist until it has a chance to cool. It’s like fresh buttermilk bread, if you cut into it too soon, it collapses and is worthless for sandwiches.

Woo Hoo! I am way ahead in points…but that’s because I knew I was going to have multiple days of inactivity. And I did. LOL! But now I don’t feel guilty about it. But yay for me, because today I hit my word count goal plus got a ton of other stuff done. So we’ll see how the rest of the week goes and the weekend. I may have to adjust my word count goal since I am making it easy-peasy.
